Coming To Court
The Seattle Municipal Court is housed in the Seattle Justice Center, 600 Fifth Avenue, in Seattle's Civic Center campus. Opened on November 13, 2002, the Seattle Justice Center houses both the court and the Seattle Police Department headquarters. The building design incorporates a number of energy and resource efficient features including a green roof planted with vegetation to improve insulation, reduce rainwater runoff and pollution. The building received a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver rating.
The court and Police Department have separate entrances and the court's entrance is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and James Street. The entrance features a public plaza and glass facade to symbolize the transparency and accessibility of justice.
Most court operations are housed in the Seattle Justice Center except for the in-custody arraignment calendar and Personal Recognizance (PR) Services. These activities are held in King County Jail Courtroom 2 (KCJ2), one block south of the Seattle Justice Center.
