Healthy Food in Schools

The Healthy Food in Schools initiative increases access to fresh, local, nutritious, environmentally sustainable, equitably sourced, and culturally relevant foods within Seattle Public Schools. The initiative is a partnership between the Office of Sustainability & Environment (OSE), Seattle Public Schools (SPS) Culinary Services, and community partners, and is supported by revenue from the Seattle Sweetened Beverage Tax.

Our Work

This program provides students at participating Seattle Public Schools with fresh fruit or vegetable snacks during the school day.

We support SPS Culinary Services to increase school meals made with fresh ingredients from local farmers, fisheries, and food businesses, especially those owned by Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC).

This multi-sectoral group helps guide existing and new efforts aimed at increasing equitable access to high-quality school meals and food and garden education for SPS students.
