Job description:
Help those who live, work and visit Seattle become lifesavers through teaching the critical skill of CPR. The Seattle Fire Department’s Medic 2 Bystander CPR Program is hiring up to 20 contracted instructors to teach CPR to individuals, organizations, schools and non-profits in the City of Seattle. No prior experience or training is required. Medic 2 will provide training and cover costs associated with becoming a certified adult, child and infant CPR instructor through the Health & Safety Institute. This is a contracted position with no medical or dental benefits. Flexibility among instructors hired with availability during the workday and/or weekends is desired.
Instructors are expected to teach a minimum of one CPR course each quarter. Course materials are provided by the Seattle Fire Department, and a fixed amount per class is paid to contracted instructors. Travel time to pick-up and return equipment and donations, as well as to and from classes is not compensated.
Pay scale:
- Hands-only CPR class: $80
- CPR Certification class: $120
- Community events: $40 per hour (max of $240 per single event)
Individuals selected for the contracted positions are required to complete a CPR certification course, a 2-hour online course and attend an in-person 6-hour orientation. Once those steps are complete, individuals must shadow and then be observed teaching a CPR course to become officially certified and able to teach classes on their own.
Only apply for this contract opportunity if you are available to complete/attend training on the below dates (more information will be provided to those who are hired):
- Attend CPR certification course prior to May 15: multiple date options will be offered upon hire (CPR card cost covered by SFD; time to attend not compensated)
- Complete 2-hour online training prior to May 16: complete when convenient for your schedule (online course cost covered by SFD; time to attend not compensated)
- Attend in-person CPR Instructor orientation on May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (compensated at $40 total for training)
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct training sessions for individuals or groups in various settings including schools, community centers, corporate offices, non-profits and more.
- Demonstrate correct CPR procedures and AED utilization.
- Offer constructive feedback to aid in student improvement.
- Monitor and evaluate student progress to ensure proficiency in CPR and AED use.
- Participate in ongoing professional development requested by Medic 2 and stay current with CPR and AED training best practices.
- Comfortability speaking in front of large groups of people.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and students.
Requirements and desired skills:
- Must be able to pass a background check to be able to instruct in public and private schools.
- Flexible work schedule that allows availability during the workday and/or weekends is desired.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deliver effective training sessions.
- Attention to detail and the ability to provide constructive feedback to students.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Reliable form of transportation.
- CPR equipment and materials are picked up and returned to Seattle Fire Department Headquarters – 301 2nd Ave S, Seattle WA 98104.
- Classes are taught at locations across the City of Seattle.
- Fluency in languages other than English is a plus.
Physical demands:
- Must be able to stand and crouch on the ground for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry training equipment, up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to demonstrate proper CPR and AED techniques.
