Gas Works Park Renovations – Playground, Comfort Station and East Entry

Updated: November 8, 2022

Fall 2022

Comfort Station and East Entry

In early November, the east entrance of Gas Work Park, the comfort station, and a portion of the parking lot during will be closed as WS Contractor, LLC begins the Comfort Station and East Entry/ADA Improvement Project. WS Contractor and Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) will work to minimize the construction impact to park visitors and requests visitors’ cooperation in following detours and closures at the park. We anticipate opening the new restroom facility in early summer 2023.

The existing comfort station/restroom facility will be replaced with a new accessible all gender facility that meets Americans with Disability (ADA) standards and Life Safety Code Compliant Structure Goals and will be situated in a new location offering increased site lines and safety. SPR will provide porty-potties for the public during constructions.

Additionally, the project will make extensive ADA improvements to the east entrance of the park, create a food truck location in the park, install a new plaza, new seating wall and ADA parking stalls.

Play Area - Thank you, Seattle! This project is complete.

Wyser Construction replaced the decayed smoke arrestor in the middle of the play area in January 2018. The smoke arrestor cap was an original piece from the Gas Works plant that was repurposed in the 1970's original play area design. The replica cap was fabricated off site and requires a crane to assist in the installation. This was one of the final items for the play area renovation project.

A new remediation/injection/monitoring well system has been installed under the play area. The Play Area project was awarded to Wyser Construction.
