Rainier Community Center Play Area Playground Renovation

This project will replace the existing play area and make accessibility improvements to the pathway from the park entrance. All improvements will meet accessibility and stormwater requirements. This project will update the pathways through the park to create an accessible route to the play area.

Real Estate Excise Tax provides $1,780,000 for planning, design and construction.

Construction: Fall 2024

Project Description

This project will replace the existing play area located next to Rainier Community Center. This will include the existing play equipment, plaza, shelter, and consideration of different layouts for these elements. Seating walls, picnic tables and other options to provide accessible seating will be studied. This project will also consider evaluating the health of existing trees and consider renovating the plantings between the parking and play area. Seattle Parks and Recreation will work with the neighborhood to create a design that will reflect the cultural aspects of the local community.

All improvements will meet accessibility (including routes to the play area) and stormwater requirements.

The play area will be closed throughout construction.
