Updated: February 18, 2025
Early 2025
The project is nearing completion! The contractor has some final touches to complete, and we are allowing time for the grass to be fully established before we open the area to the public.
Please watch this page for details on the ribbon-cutting celebration event this spring!
The Woodland Explorer proposal selected during community outreach is the basis for the new play equipment and layout. The new equipment will include structures for ages 2-5 and ages 5-12 with multiple slides, a large net climber, multiple balance and climbing elements, nature play-themed play panels, log hops, tot, belt and adaptive swings, several bridges and platforms, and a climbable whirl. The existing zip line will remain. The project team is coordinating with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to install additional bike parking that serves the play area.

Project Description
The goal of this project is to renovate the existing play area space, including new play equipment, ADA improvements, benches, and seating options. Renovated elements will meet current safety and accessibility standards.
Some of the elements we hope to improve are: replacing the play area equipment, including the whirl, spring toys, and the swings (the recently replaced zipline will be retained); replacing the play area safety surfacing; adding accessible picnic tables, benches, and other site furnishings; improving ADA accessibility to the play area and the adjacent portion of the park; and consideration of trees to begin the park's next generation of these green assets.
