The Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT) goal is to collaborate with communities to develop a transportation system that is racially equitable and socially just. To make progress on our commitment, the Office of Equity and Economic Inclusion (OEEI) was established as part of the Director's Office in 2016. OEEI is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership in planning, promoting, and advancing equity and diversity. Our work is grounded in the City’s Workplace Values of racial equity, social justice, learning, accountability, and stewardship. Through our programs and policies, we guide SDOT towards measurable improvements.
What We Do:
There are a number of programs and efforts related to equity and diversity in the city. Some of these programs are Federal, such as our compliance with Title IV. Additionally, there are citywide initiatives like the Race and Social Justice initiative (RSJI), community partnerships such as the Transportation Equity Workgroup, and internal workgroups like our RSJI Change Team.
OEEI operates within SDOT to oversee and connect this work. We provide strategic leadership and direction to ensure that we are meeting equity goals and compliance.
