Description:
This stately tree has an upright oval to round shape that can provide significant shade at maturity. Be sure to give it lots of room. The toothed green leaves of summer turn a golden bronze in the fall which is when the edible beechnuts ripen. The smooth gray elephantine trunk is quite attractive in winter.

A great shade tree for your yard or in a wide planting strip with no overhead wires. 

Leaves:

Beechnuts are triangular and enclosed with spiny bracts. Edible and a favorite of wildlife.
